Frequently asked questions
Resoling is the replacing old and worn rubber with new rubber. The lower rubber (sole) and the upper rubber (rand) will get worn down and eventually blow out with repeated climbing. All resoles involve replacing half of the sole with new rubber. From there we recommend evaluating the rand to see if you need a toe replacement or cap.
The best time to resole is when the sole rubber wears beneath the sole line and the rand rubber beneath it is visible. This means we will most likely not have to do a toe.
If the rand rubber is very soft or has a hole in it then the resole will need a toe replacement or toe cap. See the FAQ for toe caps and replacements for more info.
If the toe is blown out beyond the leather to the point where your toe is showing we can still fix your shoes! This involves leather patchwork and will cost extra.
